The Official DVSA Highway Code App

Official app for the UK’s learner driver instruction manual

Project summary

The client

The DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) is a UK agency responsible for road safety through driving tests, MOT inspections, and enforcement of vehicle and driver regulations.

What I did

Based on the printed edition of UK’s official learner driver instruction manual, the official Highway Code app has consistently held a top 10 position in the educational category in iTunes, often reaching the #1 slot. In 2012 it was winner of a Prince Michael Road Safety Award. I was art director, information architect and lead designer on the project.

Project milestone #1
As learners read the guide, their progress is tracked. After each section users can confirm they have read and understood the content which can then be later used for testing.
Users can take quizzes at anytime to test their knowledge. The tests are based on actual real world tests
In addition to road rules testing, users can be tested on their knowledge of road signs.
